Contract signed with Stadler for new RAS90 system in the United Kingdom

24. March 2021.

ALTPRO has signed a contract with Stadler to equip 42 trains in the United Kingdom with the latest product from the vehicle safety systems niche – RAS90.

Automatic train protection system RAS90 is an INDUSI based ATP system and it is designed in order to increase the safety of railway traffic. The main function of the system is to initiate automatic braking if the driver doesn’t comply with safety regulations. RAS90 is continuously monitoring the speed of the train and does not allow overspeeding at any point during the track. RAS90 can be additionally complemented with various other functions like a dead man’s system, event recording, wheel lubrication and similar.

In collaboration with Stadler, ALTPRO will supply 42 metro trains with the RAS90 ATP system, to drive passengers in the north-east of England, in Newcastle upon Tyne. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in 2023 and in 2024 the new metro trains will completely replace the existing fleet. The 60-metre long trains that Stadler is providing for the standard gauge network in Tyne and Wear each consist of five carriages. The maximum speed is 80 kilometres per hour and trains can accommodate up to 600 passengers.
