Rail: The Sustainable Choice
The rail sector represents the most sustainable mode of mass transportation and a key solution for decarbonising the transport industry.

Rail is the only mode of transport in the EU that consistently reduced both emissions and energy consumption between 1990 and 2017. While the transport sector as a whole accounts for 25% of total EU greenhouse gas emissions, rail contributes only 0.4%.
Rail plays a crucial role in achieving the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality goal, primarily through a modal shift from polluting transport to rail. Although rail remains the lowest-impact mode of land transport, challenges such as energy consumption, noise, and environmental footprint remain, which we actively work to reduce.
